Germany: Laws on federal and provincial level

Germany has a WoB on federal level as well as in a growing number of its 16 provinces.


The federal law is provided by the federal government here.

As other countries Germany has implementet the Århus Convention / EU-directive on access to environmental information on federal and provincial level.


The federal law on access to environmental information can be found at the federal database of legislation, further information by the ministry for environment here.


An overview over the implementation of the Århus Convention into the legislation of the provinces has been compiled by the Independent Institute for Environmental Questions and can be found here.


Germany also has a particular law on access to information for consumers both on federal and provincial level. The federal ministry for consumer affairs provides a the law itself here , a regulation of the possible costs of the consumer Wob here and a website with contact points in the provinces here.
